Behind the scenes
The works come out of storage for the last time before the museum closes for renovation work, and are revealed from a whole new angle. In this last exhibition, the behind-the-scenes of creation and conservation are brought to light, as a prelude to the work on the collections that is about to begin. Designed in collaboration with two artists, Corentin Canesson and Michaela Sanson-Braun, it highlights the dual role of laboratory and conservatory that the museum has played since its creation.
Organised by major field - paintings, objects, drawings and prints - this presentation highlights the different stages in the creation of a work, from the first draft to the final execution. From the sketch to the preparatory drawing, from the choice of material to the composition, this display is designed around major ensembles representative of the variety of the collections and the history of modern art. It explores the history of forms, genres and styles, focusing on the technical and material aspects of the works.
